The Shields Painting Difference: Perfection with Every Brush Stroke
Many painting companies in Florida rely on flashy marketing and big promises to try and attract new clients. But when it comes time to work, they fall short of their promises. This is often due to a lack of experience, qualified painters, and a drive to overachieve. At Shields Painting, we do things a little differently than other painting companies in Citrus County. We believe that a professional paint job should be as close to perfect as possible. Our goal is to leave you 100% satisfied, whether we're touching up an old residential paint job or performing a complex commercial project. It might sound simple, but we achieve that goal through honesty, hard work, beautiful results, and reasonable pricing.

Cabinet Painting
Citrus County cabinet painting deserves its own section on this page because it requires more time, skill, and quality paint than most sections of your home. If your home's cabinets are built into its woodwork, replacing them can be obnoxiously expensive. Compared to the cost of installing new cabinets, painting your kitchen cabinets is much more affordable.
At Shields Painting, we specialize in transforming old cabinets into new, gorgeous features that are just as usable as they are beautiful. Each step of our cabinet painting process is meticulous and thorough. And we'll take care of the entire job, from cleaning, prep, and sanding to priming, painting, and reassembly. This unique service lets you enjoy a brand-new look in your kitchen without having to go into debt by replacing your cabinets.
Whether your cabinets are new, but you want to change their color or you'd like to transition wood cabinets to a painted finish, Shields Painting has the expertise and experience to give you a new look you'll love.

Exterior Residential Painting
Your home - it's a place that not only keeps your belongings safe. It protects your family and loved ones, too. It's one of your largest investments, and like anything else of value, it should be protected. However, Florida weather can take a toll on your home's structure and paint, lowering your home's value and even putting your family at risk.
While it's true that a beautiful exterior affects your house's value, it shouldn't take thousands of remodeling dollars to make a positive change to your home. There's a fine line between reasonable pricing and top-quality painting, and that sweet spot is what Shields Painting aims for. If you want to transform how your friends and neighbors see your home, never underestimate the power of a professional paint job.
Our exterior residential painting services are designed to boost curb appeal, give your home a fresh look, and help it stand up to Florida's unique weather. But we provide more than that. When you hire Shields Painting for your outdoor painting project, you will enjoy peace of mind in knowing that your home is in truly capable hands. Our goal is to exceed your expectations and help bring out the best in your property, whether you need to re-stain your deck or remove old, peeling paint from your siding.

When it comes to first impressions, your businesses' appearance plays an important role. Your commercial property's paint job factors into its overall aesthetics. The same goes for your businesses' interior paint. Would you want to do business with a company that has peeling paint or unsightly crown molding? At Shield's Painting, our goal is to create a beautiful environment that your customers and employees will love inside and out. SPRING HILL, Fla. — Dave Rabbitt and his Spring Hill neighbors have been fighting the potential development across the street from his house for almost two years.
“We wouldn’t have moved here knowing that something of this nature and magnitude was going to happen,” he said.
He feels so strongly about it he has a big sign pointing right at the problem.
“It’s frustrating, but you have to stand up for something. And it’s not just for my wife and I. It’s for the rest of the neighborhood.”
Many people living here are working to keep Hernando County officials from allowing a large wooded area next to the neighborhood to be turned into a commercial development, possibly with a Wawa, tire shop, and strip mall.
Kalyn Lehr lives here with her baby Sam who turned 9 months old Friday.
“We call it a “chubb-ersary” because we call him the “Chubbs.”
She said she wants him to grow up in a quiet neighborhood where kids can play safely outside.
But she says the development will take away the buffer of the woods, leaving them with more noise, traffic, crime, and pollution.
“We don’t want to see this change because some developer wants to develop this plot of land. Why not another plot of land,” said Lehr.
The final vote on what to do with the land is expected to come at the Hernando County Commission meeting on Aug. 22.
In the meantime, Dave said the issue has brought people here closer together.
“We’ve met more of the neighbors since this started than we have because it united all of us,” said Rabbitt.

SPRING HILL, Fla. — Two teens were arrested after they robbed two other teens at gunpoint Saturday in Spring Hill, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office explained in a news release.
Deputies responded at around 12:41 a.m. to a house on Talpa Street on reports of a robbery that just happened.
The two robbery victims, ages 17 and 18, told deputies they were parked in front of the house when a car pulled up behind them. Two people got out and approached the driver's side while wearing masks and holding guns, the agency said.
One of the teens inside the car was able to identify the two people – one reportedly being 18-year-old Evan Spears and the other being a 16-year-old.
Evan Spears
The two teens outside demanded the two teens inside give them everything they had with them, according to the sheriff's office. One of the guys allegedly took a wallet while the other took a purse from inside the car.
Following the robbery, Spears and the 16-year-old left the area in a white Jeep Compass.
Later on in the day, deputies were able to find the Jeep at a home off Elgin Boulevard. There, they found Spears and the other teen sitting inside the car with two other people.
All four were detained at the scene.

"Deputies also noted a black ski mask was located on the driver's seat of the suspects' vehicle," the release reads in part. "The grip of a firearm could also be seen under the front passenger seat."
While being questioned, the two teens admitted to detectives they went to Talpa Street to commit a robbery – but the two teens were not the original target, the news release said.
They still decided to rob them at gunpoint even with them not being the intended target, deputies explained.
Both Spears and the 16-year-old were taken to the Hernando County Detention Center, each on a charge of armed robbery, which is a felony.
The 16-year-old was turned over to the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice in Ocala while Spears is being held at the detention center on a $20,000 bond.
Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.

Tips on how to properly fill and stack your sandbags • Fill bags one-half to two-thirds of the way full • Over-filled bags will result in a leaky sandbag wall • Stack sandbags so that the seams between the bags are staggered • Tuck the top of each bag under to ensure that that bag is sealed by its own weight
This self-serve sandbag site will remain open until weather conditions begin to deteriorate. Hernando County Government’s Office of Emergency Management continues to monitor and inform our community about storm impacts. Visit the following web and social media sites for more information.

A call from a concerned neighbor led to a Spring Hill woman being charged with child neglect, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.
Just after 10 a.m. on April 27, Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence in Spring Hill after receiving a call from a concerned citizen regarding the welfare of a small child.
Upon arrival, deputies met with the caller, who said a female acquaintance arrived at the caller’s home earlier that morning. The caller observed the woman to be acting strange and believed she was under the influence of an unknown narcotic.
The caller knew the woman, identified as Amber Frazier, was responsible for providing care and supervision to a small child. The child was not with Frazier, so the caller asked where the child was. Frazier told her the child was “in the car outside.”
The caller immediately went to check the vehicle and found it to be empty. The caller asked again where the child was. This time, Frazier told her the child was in school. Knowing the child was not in school, the caller advised Frazier to get in the car, at which time the caller drove to Frazier’s residence to see if the child was there.
Upon arrival, Frazier left the vehicle and began banging on the doors and windows of the residence, stating she was “locked out.” After several minutes of banging, the child answered the door.
The caller discovered the child has been left home alone, with no care and/or supervision.
The caller asked Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services to check on Frazier’s overall status. HCFES personnel said Frazier was clearly under the influence of too much medication and should not be operating a vehicle.
The caller left Frazier and the child at the residence and went home. Once at home, the caller contacted the Sheriff’s Office. After meeting with the caller, deputies responded to Frazier’s residence to check on her and the child.
Deputies noted that Frazier still appeared to be under the influence of something. Frazier told deputies it was “her new medication” and she had taken one or two the previous night.
Frazier gave the prescription bottle to the deputy. The deputy observed the prescription had been filled on April 26. Upon conducting a pill count, deputies discovered (in addition to what was prescribed) that seven pills were missing.
Deputies asked Frazier about the discrepancy. She provided several different reasons why pills were missing. Frazier also told the deputy she had been smoking marijuana, and does so regularly.
Frazier then told deputies she took one pill at 9 a.m., on April 27, then took eight more pills over the next 18-hour period.
When asked about leaving the child without supervision, Frazier said a friend named “Jessica” stayed with the child. Frazier was unable to provide a last name, address, and/or telephone number for Jessica.
Deputies contacted the Department of Children and Families and requested an immediate response.
The DCF case worker and the deputy interviewed Frazier again regarding the medication and leaving the child alone. Frazier continued to provide varying stories about the medication and continued to deny leaving the child alone.
DCF decided to remove the child from Frazier’s care. The case worker said this would be the third time the child was removed from Frazier’s care. The child was placed in the care of a family member.
Deputies placed Frazier under arrest for felony child neglect. Her bond was set at $2,000, as per the bond schedule.
The case remains under investigation.

Tropical Storm Idalia, pronounced “ee-DAL-ya,” is the ninth named storm this season in the Atlantic Basin. It is currently located slightly east of the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula.
It is currently expected to hit Florida as a Category 1 Hurricane on Wednesday, making landfall between Pensacola and Tampa Bay on Wednesday, August 30th. The effects of the storm are expected to start being felt Tuesday.
Tropical Storm Idalia is moving slowly north, currently at 2 MPH, which is very slow. The presence of Hurricane Franklin in the Atlantic is contributing to its slow trek. Idalia is expected to pick up speed after Franklin moves north and east away from the Continental United States.
An ominous trend is that the letter I is the most retired storm letter. A storm’s name is retired when the storm causes significant damage or loss of life. There are 13 storms that start with the letter I that have been retired: Ione, Inez, Iris, Isidore, Isabel, Ivan, Ike, Igor, Irene, Ingrid, Irma, Ida, and Ian. Ian struck southeast Florida last year.
